EXERCISE 1

ADDING SITE TO WEBMASTER TOOLS

Objectives:

-register your site to the webcommunity

i.e:
http://www.example.com

http://www.example.com/malaysia

http://www.example.com/singapore

http://www.example.com/india

Add and verify a site:

1. Sign into Google Webmaster Tools with your Google Account.
2. Click the Add a site button, and type the URL of the site you want to add. Make sure you type the entire URL, such as http://www.example.com/
3. Click Continue. The Site verification page opens.
4. (Optional) In the Name box, type a name for your site (for example, My Blog).
5. Select the verification method you want, and follow the instructions.

Note:New blogs that you create in Blogger are automatically verified in Webmaster Tools. (You'll need to use the same Google Account for both your blog and Webmaster Tools.) If your blog doesn't appear on the Webmaster Tools home page, click Add a site. Your site will be added and automatically verified. However, older blogs are not automatically verified, and should be verified using the meta tag method.

EXERCISE 2

SUBMIT SITEMAPS TO GOOGLE WEBMASTER (for older blogs)

Objectives:

-to enable Google to find, index and rank your site.

Step 1: 

Sign In to your Gmail Account

Step 2: (Sign into Google Webmaster Tools with your Google Account)

1. Login to Google WebMaster Tool or Create WebMaster Profile
2. Go to 'Site Dashboard' and click 'Sitemaps'
3. Click ADD/TEST SITEMAP 'button'
4. Add your sitemap (i.e: http://www.mynef.com/malaysia)

Step 2: 

1. Login to Your Blogger Account
2. Go to 'Template' and click 'Edit HTML'
3. Under Template->Edit HTML, somewhere near the top of the script, add the Meta Tag as follows:-

Relace the META TAG with the code generated by Google Webmaster. Once done, Save the Template. When you return to Google Webmaster site, you can click the button that says “Verify”. Your are done!

Note:By adding a Sitemap, you will be providing Google with more details and information about your Blog. With this, Google will crawl your site, report information on any errors in the Sitemaps tab, and index your Blog site at a faster rate.
